"Astrid's belief in a call to service, a public responsibility to better one's community, inspired her to run for office in 1999. While serving two terms on the Gloucester City Council, she witnessed first hand how local government struggles against rising costs and decreasing aid from the state. Now more than ever, the 5th Essex District needs a passionate advocate in the state legislature. Astrid will be a fresh voice and a tireless advocate for Essex, Gloucester, and Rockport."
